CCSD Music Teachers Love Music and Chidlren

Michele Haverfield and Zach Krnach

Cambridge City School District’s music program is led by five music teachers who touch the lives of every student in the District.

Zachary Krnach, the High School Band Director, is in his second year at Cambridge.

Mr. Krnach graduated from the Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Music Education. He graduated from Jackson High School in Massillon in 2017 where he was a member of the marching band, the concert band, the pit orchestra, the jazz band, the pep band, and the Tri-Music Honor Society.

Mr. Krnach teaches instrumental music to students in fifth through 12th grades and a film music elective course. Mr. Krnach leads the high school marching, concert, and pep bands.

“I love seeing our students show their creativity through their music-making and knowing that I am making a positive musical impact on their lives,” Krnach said.

Michele Haverfield teaches instrumental and general music at Cambridge Middle School and is the assistant director of the High School Marching Band.

Mrs. Haverfield graduated from Massillon Washington High School in 1988. While in High School, she participated in the choir, the swing choir, the marching and concert bands and was in several musicals.

She went on to earn her BA in Music Education from Bowling Green State University where she played in the marching and concert bands. She earned her Master of Music Education from the University of Akron.

“I love watching my students grow, and not just musically,” Haverfield said. “It is a gift to teach them multiple years.”

Ms. Ferrell reads to her class.

At our Primary School, Ms. Angie Ferrell teaches vocal music to our students. She directs two shows per year, one before Christmas and one in the spring that feature our first and second grade students including our two second grade choirs.

Ms. Ferrell graduated from Newcomerstown High School in 1990 where she was a member of the concert, jazz and pep bands. She was also involved in designing sets for musicals. She attended Muskingum University where she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Music Education, English, and TESOL Endorsement Reading Recovery Certification-OSU. She earned a Master of Education and Reading Endorsement, at Ohio University.

While an undergrad at Muskingum, Ms. Ferrell played in the Muskingum Wind Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble, Muskingum Spirit Band, the Muskingum Valley Symphonic Winds which she still performs, the Zanesville Memorial Concert Band which she still performs, and the Cambridge City Band which she still performs. She also played with the Dick Simcox Big Band and sings with the First Christian Church Choir.

Two of her favorite memories in her musical history is attending a Maynard Ferguson concert and a Canadian Brass Band concert.

“I love to watch the students learn and enjoy performing music,” Ferrell said.

Christina Servais

Mrs. Christina Servais teaches music at the Intermediate School where she directs a concert in the winter and a concert in the spring. She also supports Mr. Krnach in his efforts to teach instrumental music.

Mrs. Servais graduated from Indian Valley High School in 2004 where she was a member of the choir, the concert choir and the theater club. She attended Muskingum University where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Music Education. She was a member of the Choir, the Chamber Singers, and the Wind and Percussion Ensemble.

Her favorite memories were made traveling with her friends to perform in wonderful places like Disney World, Switzerland, Austria and several states. She also enjoys performing closer to home at local nursing homes and community events.
“I love being surrounded by music all the time and watching our students enjoy music,” Mrs. Servais said.

Aaron Todd plays some boogie-woogie on the piano.

Mr. Aaron Todd is the choir director for the Middle School and High School and teaches general music to sixth graders.

He is a CHS alumni graduating in 1995. While at Cambridge, he participated in the Symphonic Choir, Symphony Band, Jazz Band and Marching Band. His favorite memory from high school was being the featured vocalist for the 1994 Marching Band.
He matriculated to Muskingum University where he was a member of the Wind Ensemble, Concert Choir, Chamber Singers, Chorale Society and Lyric Theatre.
