Personnel Items Dominate Special BOE Meeting Agenda

The Cambridge City School District Board of Education met in special session on July 3, 2024, to approve several personnel decisions ahead of a state-imposed deadline to promote stability and consistency for Ohio students.

According to the Ohio Revised Code and Principle 8 of the Licensure Code of Professional Conduct for Ohio Educators individuals are permitted to resign their employment only between the last day of school and July 10. After July 10, educators can ask to be released from their employment contracts at the discretion of their employers.

“The timing of school board approval of new hires and resignations is important to educators in Ohio,” Cambridge Superintendent Dan Coffman said. “We want to make sure we are following the Ohio Revised Code and professional standards set forth in the Code of Professional Conduct for Educators as well as being supportive of our educators and cooperative with other school districts.”

At the meeting, the board approved limited one-year teaching contracts for Tamara Zimmer, second grade at Cambridge Primary and Zavin Orr, eighth grade science at Cambridge Middle School. The board also approved the rehiring of retired Cynthia Lucas as a part-time math teacher at the Middle School.

The board also approved Leah Maleski as administrative secretary at the Primary School,  Audra Carpenter as the Early Childhood Education Grant Coordinator, Lottie Peyton as a classroom aide at the Primary School, Danielle Eubanks as a State Systematic Improvement Plan team member, and the resignation of Beth Patterson.

The board also approved extended service for Michelle Johnston and Sean Byerly, approved Kitrina Dubose as Summer CATS Camp Site Coordinator at Cambridge Intermediate School and Neal Stillion as summer CATS Camp substitute bus driver.

The board also approved Jennifer Luallen, Tyler Cota and Aurora Miller as Washington D.C. trip advisors, and Michelle McCellan as head cook at Cambridge Intermediate School.

In athletics, the board approved Adam Fox as assistant boys’ soccer coach, Esmeralda Garcia as assistant girls’ soccer coach, and athletic director Jeff Wheeler and treasurer Ed Wright as signatories on the athletic petty cash checking account removing all others.

The board also approved a master agreement with the East Central Ohio Educational Service Center for the 2024-2025 school year, the salary schedule for the personal service contract for the 2024-2025 school year, and an amended 2024-2025 student calendar.
The next meeting of the Board of Education will be at 5 p.m. on August 15, 2024, at the Garfield Administrative Center.
