Hannon Completes ROX Facilitator Training

Mrs. Hannon holds the book that the ROX curriculum is based on.

Cambridge Middle School teacher Angela Hannon has been a role model for students since she entered her first classroom as a teacher. Most recently as a STEM teacher, Hannon has demonstrated female students can be successful in the academic areas of science, technology, engineering, and math, despite what traditional gender roles and stereotypes may indicate.

Hannon, a trained coach, and mentor for adolescent girls, recently completed the training program and is now a certified ROX Facilitator. She has demonstrated her dedication and commitment to creating environments of belonging in our schools.

The ROX (Ruling Our eXperiences) Facilitator training program equips participants with the skills necessary to facilitate programming that promotes the development of healthy interpersonal relationships, positive self-concept, assertiveness, leadership, and problem-solving capabilities in adolescent girls.

"We are thrilled to welcome Angela to our network of dedicated and highly-trained facilitators," said Angel Mensing, Director of School Partnerships for ROX. “Angela has demonstrated an exceptional understanding of ROX programming, and we are confident that her experience and training will positively impact the girls of Cambridge Middle School.”

Hannon facilitates a group of approximately 15 sixth grade girls who meet twice a week. The goal of ROX is to provide research-backed resources and programs to help girls use their voice, rule their experiences, and embrace their confidence.

A series of lessons which includes titles like “Navigating Friendships and Difficult Peer Relationships” and “Creating a Positive Outlook and Seeing Yourself Succeed,” help build confident young girls who “control their own relationships, experiences, decisions, and futures.”

“I am so grateful that we have this opportunity for our female students,” Middle School Principal Heath Hayes said. “CMS is blessed to have someone like Mrs. Hannon to lead this group. I firmly believe that the relationships she will foster will lead to growth in our young ladies.
“Mrs. Hannon will most certainly enrich the overall learning experience of our students through STEM but also the internal growth of our female students as well,” Hayes continued.

ROX is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to promoting the health, well-being, and social development of girls. ROX utilizes the first-ever national research on girls to inform and provide them with evidence-based programs and support that empowers them to lead healthy and prospering lives. The program aims to improve the societal standing, mental health, decision-making skills, and leadership traits of young girls.

As ROX continues to expand in communities across the country, more women like Angela will play critical roles in leading this vital work of equipping girls with the skills that they need to control their own relationships, experiences, decisions, and futures.
