Laishley Earns Fifth Place and State Alternate Spot

Cambridge High School freshman wrestler Marshall Laishley took fifth place in the 138-pound weight class at the Division II District wrestling tournament at Galia Academy Saturday.

While the top four wrestlers from each district advance to the state tournament, Laishley will be an alternate in case another wrestler from his weight class cannot attend.

Laishley won his opening match defeating John Glenn’s John Bates 7-2 before falling into the consolation bracket losing by pin in his second match. Laishley won his next match by pin before losing again. He then won the fifth-place match by forfeit.

In the 120-pound weight class, Cambridge’s Braylon Rose lost his first match 16-1, recovered with a pin in his first consolation match before being eliminated.

Noah Keen also dropped his first match in the 126-pound weight class, charged back with a pair of wins - a pin and a 9-4 decision – before he was eliminated.

The State Tournament is Friday, March 8 and Saturday, March 9 at the Jerome Schottenstein Center at Ohio State.
