The Cambridge High School girls’ basketball team has improved tremendously this season, but that improvement has not always shown up on the scoreboard. On Monday, the hard work of the Lady Bobcats paid off as they defeated Tuscarawas Central Catholic 55-27 in the Gene Ford Gymnasium at Cambridge High School.
“We have had a lot of moral victories this season, but it was nice to get a real win tonight,” Cambridge coach Logan McCort said. “The girls have worked hard all year, they have never quit, and they deserve a win, especially a decisive win.”
The Bobcats started fast as they jumped to a 20-5 lead in the first quarter. Emma Krise led the Cats with nine points in the period. Jada Hall, Eva Lamphear, Kiara Murphy, Khloe Seresun and Gracie Kinnan all put up points to help Cambridge to the lead.
The Bobcats struggled in the second quarter but rebounded with an 18-7 advantage in the third quarter as Murphy dominated in the lane with eight points. Garcia and Seresun each added four points in the quarter.
Murphy continued to pace Cambridge in the fourth quarter as she scored eight more points as the Bobcats increased the lead by five points.
“The girls played well tonight, and they are excited to get the win,” McCort said. “I’m proud of them and happy for them.”
Murphy led the Bobcats with 20 points while Krise added 13.
The Bobcats improve their record to 4-16 for the season and will play again next Wednesday at Shenandoah.
