BOE Gives Green Light on Roof Projects
During a special session of the Cambridge City School District Board of Education on Thursday (December 30) the board adopted a resolution authorizing the administration to enter into a contract to replace shingle roofs on three of the district’s buildings.

The contract is with Garland/DBS, Inc. to furnish all material, labor, equipment, and tools necessary for shingle roof replacements at Cambridge Intermediate School, Cambridge Primary School, and Garfield Administrative Center.

“We received bids for this project earlier in the year with the idea that we would pursue them in the spring of 2022, however, the pricing we received is only good until the end of year,” Cambridge Superintendent Dan Coffman explained. “With the price of materials predicted to increase, we needed to move forward with this contract prior to the end of 2021 to avoid having to re-bid the project and potentially end up paying significantly more money to complete the same work.”

The cost of the project will be paid by the one-time ESSER (Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief) funds the district has applied for and will receive, with any remaining balance being paid from Permanent Improvement Fund. The project is expected to begin in late spring and be completed by the end of summer 2022.
