Cambridge Schools and MVHC Receive Opportunity Grant
New and enhanced summer programming is coming to Cambridge City Schools, courtesy of the Summer Learning and Afterschool Opportunities Grant from the Ohio Department of Education (ODE).

In a continuing effort to implement strategies and develop tools to support students and garner greater students support, ODE made funding available to community organizations and school partnerships to “create” and “expand” summer and afterschool programs in Ohio.

Muskingum Valley Health Centers (MVHC) collaborating with Cambridge City Schools and other community partners, was awarded $908,138 in Afterschool Create and Afterschool Expand grant money to provide academic enrichment, nutrition and overall student wellness, and college/career readiness programs.

The Summer CATS Camp program at Cambridge Primary, Intermediate, Middle, and High schools meet the requirements and will benefit from this collaboration this summer. Summer CATS camp begins in June with a second session in July. Funding is provided for three summers.

Students will receive expanded learning opportunities with field trips, STEM activities, and educational games using the Lu Interactive Gym at the Primary and Intermediate buildings. Middle School students will experience walking classrooms and important life skills activities, while High School students will visit career-tech and college facilities and have the opportunity to take drivers education. MVHC will add wellness and nutritional components to the program.

ODE awarded $89 million dollars to 161 community-based partners chosen from more than 700 applications.

The Summer CATS Camp is still accepting students. For more information, contact Robin Lahmers at 330-619-8481 or 740-439-3895.
