The Cambridge City School District Board of Education received another update on new facilities and new programs during the monthly board meeting on Thursday at the Intermediate School.
During the meeting, board members visited the new playground and the new time and care room. In addition, Superintendent Coffman talked about the STEM program at the Intermediate School after drawing attention to the program during his monthly livestream update.
The STEM program started a few years ago at the High School and Middle School and expanded to the Intermediate School last year.
“There has been an emphasis for a few years on the STEM subjects of science, technology, engineering and math,” Coffman pointed out. “As a district, we have done an excellent job of providing our students with opportunities to do hands on learning in these areas.
“The lab here at CIS and the program being taught by Michelle Johnston, as well as Angela Hannon at the Middle School and Tom Hannon at the High School, is outstanding. I am amazed at what our students are doing at all levels.”
During the meeting, Cambridge High School seniors Lainey Carpenter and Braxton King representing the Class of 2023 asked the board to support a senior class trip.
The request is for a Royal Caribbean cruise on March 10 through March 13 to the Bahamas with stops at Nassau and the Royal Caribbean private island Coco Cay.
According to Carpenter and King, the trip will be available for all seniors. The cruise will leave out of Port Canaveral, Florida, and we will use bus transportation to get to Florida.
During the meeting, the board approved few resolutions:
• Approved the waiving the requirements to provide Career Technology Education to 7th and 8th grade students for the 2022-2023 school year
• Approved a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with RFG Associates for grant administration of the Cambridge Middle School 21st Century Community Learning Grant for the 2022-2023 school year.
• Approved entering into agreement with Ohio University Eastern Campus as a partner school for field experience and student teaching opportunities for pre-service educators for the 2022-2023 school year.
• Approved a resolution to reapprove the administrative classified salary schedule for the 2022-2023 school year.
• Approved a memorandum of understanding with the Cambridge Education Association and the local Ohio Association of Public School Employees local organization regarding the timeline for negotiations.
During the meeting, the board approved several personnel matters.
The board approved Elizabeth Patterson as a substitute clerical aide, Kim Knaup as cook at CMS, April Childers at substitute cook, Lori Feyko as custodian at CHS, Sarah Lanning as Attendant Aid at CPS, Mary Ann Price as mid-day van route, Lois Ault as bus driver and cook at CPS, Tammy Engle as classroom aide at CPS, Shanna Surrarrer as cook as CMS, and Eli Ritz as attendant aide at CMS.
The board approved Teresa Bacon, Elizabeth Patterson, Jenelle Lilly, Melissa Lingafelter, and Ruth Anderson as volunteers.The board approved the resignation of Neal Stillion, Hallie West, Mary Ann Price, Christine Clagett as science advisor, the unpaid leave for Leslie Leppla and maternity leave for Kristen Summers.
The board approved Christine Clagett as CMS Social Studies Advisor and Alexe Nicholes as CMS Science Advisor, Dwayne Wadley and Pippa Mikes as substitute teachers, Wendy Cochran, Michele Haverfield, Julie Starr, Kasey Wharton, Angie Hayhurst, Raymond Leek, Shawna Winland, Rod Gray, Nicole Earley, and Kevin Gunn as Multi-Tiered Systems of Support Coordinators, and Haley Stalnaker as a kindergarten teacher.
The board approved Laura Carpenetti as Federal Program Compliance Coordinator, Rose Marie Daymut as the 21st Century Community Learning Centers Grant Manager and Jennifer Howell to provide health related professional development for 21st CCLC staff during the 2022-2023 school year.
The Board also approved Kelley Kenworthy as Human Resources and EMIS Coordinator effective September 9, 2022.
In sports, the board approved Morgan Larrick as JV volleyball coach, Dustin Rose, Jennifer Burga, Kalyn Davis, Kylie Pyers, and Raekwon Latham as athletic volunteers.
The next board meeting will be on Thursday, October 13, 2022, at 5 p.m. at the Garfield Administrative Center. There will be a special board meeting at 8 a.m. on Sept. 20, 2022 at Garfield Administrative Center.
