CCSD Board Hires Architect for Bus Garage Project
The Cambridge City School District Board of Education is moving forward with the construction of a new transportation facility near the campus on Wills Creek Valley Drive.

At the monthly school board meeting, the board selected V2Architects of Cambridge based on the Request for Qualifications process and authorized entering into a contract with V2 Architects for the schematic design, bidding, and construction administration of the transportation facility.

“With the awarding of this contract, we move into the first phase of this project which is the design phase,” Cambridge Superintendent Dan Coffman said. “Our current facility located next to Pine Field has served us well, but it is tired. It is time to move forward and provide a facility that will meet the needs of our transportation department.”

The board ratified the collective bargaining agreement between the Cambridge City School District and the OAPSE/AFSCME Local 4/AFL-CIO and its local #132 which represents most non-teaching employees in the district effective July 1, 2021, through June 30, 2023.

“Like we do with the CEA, the administration and the Board of Education maintains a positive relationship with the local union membership,” Coffman said. “We work closely with the nearly 100 members and I am pleased with the student-centered agreement we put in place.”
Representatives from both parties began the negotiation process this spring with the OAPSE/AFSCME Local 4/AFL-CIO membership ratifying the agreement prior to the July BOE meeting.

The board approved the Administrative Salary Schedule, Administrative Classified Salary Schedule and the Personal Services Salary Schedule for 2021-2022.

In other business, the board approved waiving the requirement to provide Career Technology Education to seventh and eighth grade students for the 2021-2022 school year; approved the recommendation to award student accident insurance of the 2021-2022 school year to K&K Insurance from Fort Wayne, Indiana; and approved the extend school contract for Physical Therapy Services with Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center.

In personnel matters, the board approved Tiffany McMullen as substitute custodian, approved Anna Hughes as substitute teacher; approved unpaid leave for Sally Fields, approved the resignation of Brittany Salami, Robyn Morrow, Cynthia Pollock, Gregg Strasser and Kristin Trimmer; approved the resignation of Scott Ruby as boys’ varsity tennis coach.

The Board approved Tyler Cota and Alexe Nicholes as student council advisors at the Middle School; approved limited teacher contracts for Aurora Dollins as an intervention specialist at the Middle School and K. Lew Nicholas as Dean of Students at the Intermediate School; approved extended service days for Rod Gray, Trudy Tuttle and K. The board also approved several positions for Summer CATS Camp including Addison Ferguson, Janie Clifton, and Bailey Trout as aides; Emma Stillion and Julie Endley as a tutor; Aaron Beatty, Amanda Miller, Julia Griffith, and Martha Cheslar as teachers; and Heather Robertson and Lisa Taylor as site coordinators.

The board also approved payment of $20 per hour for bus drivers who complete extra trips during Summer CATS Camp.

The next meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on August 10 at the Garfield Administrative Center.
