CHS Celebrates Month of the Military Child in April

Cambridge High School is joining with schools across the region and across the country to celebrate the Month of the Military Child during April and highlight the important role military children play in the armed forces community.

Sponsored by the Department of Defense Military Community and Family Policy, the Month of the Military Child is a time to applaud military families and their children for the daily sacrifices they make and the challenges they overcome.

To celebrate, CHS will participate in the following activities:
  • Military Mondays - Each Monday, after the Pledge of Allegiance, an interesting or fun military fact will be read over the intercom.
  • Freedom Fridays - Each Friday in April, students can dress in the military-themed outfit of the day.
    1. April 8th - Wear Purple
    2. April 22nd - Wear Camouflage
    3. April 29th - Wear Red, White and Blue
On April 25th, local representatives from all military branches will conduct a Bootcamp Challenge where students have the opportunity to complete basic training type activities.

“I believe we should take every opportunity to celebrate our men and women of the military, past and present,” said CHS Military Liaison Lovel Quinn. “We should honor our veterans and always remember the sacrifices that they and their families have made and are presently making."

With that in mind, Cambridge City School District is starting a Military Honor Wall on its website that will highlight alumni, current students that have enlisted, and staff members who served or are currently serving in the military.

Submissions will be accepted starting immediately. Please fill out the online questionnaire and upload a photo at https://forms.gle/Wcdo1Qm9DuvRoQWC6 or email your name, CHS graduation year, military branch, years served and a picture to [email protected]

We encourage everyone to visit the Military Connection webpage on the High School’s website at https://www.cambridgecityschools.org/MilitaryConnection.aspx

On the webpage, one will learn that Cambridge High School has applied to the Ohio Department of Education (ODE) for the Purple Star School designation. The Purple Star School designation recognizes schools that show major commitment to students and families connected to our nation’s military.
